UPDATE And we’re done! what a fantastic ten days we have had with the Knitted Bible Exhibition at the church. We have had so many visitors, over 200 students from local schools this week and visitors from across Leicestershire and further afield.
Our thanks mainly to the members of St George’s URC church in Hartlepool who created the exhibition, to our members who have knitted bunting, flowers and animals, baked cakes and welcomed people and everyone who came to see us. There are more photos on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
Our visitors contributed £550 in voluntary donations which will be forwarded to the Disasters’ Emergency Committee and our local church charities.
If your church is thinking about hosting the exhibition we wholeheartedly recommend it for reaching your local community and building up the church fellowship.
This week (14th June) we are hosting the Knitted Bible Exhibition which has 36 different Bible scenes created by St George’s United Reformed church in Hartlepool. Our people have been busy knitting bunting (so many flags) and animals which were hidden around the town. There are quiet corners where you can try French knitting, knitting, there is some sheep’s wool to pull into threads, there’s a quiz and colouring pages. There is also a prayer tree.
The stars of the show though, are the knitted exhibits, the 36 scenes cover the Old Testament and the Gospels, we all have our favourites, mine if a fierce looking Goliath. You can count the sheep, the fish and loaves, check out the stripes on Joseph’s coat, the guests at the wedding in Canaan and the man being lowered through the roof.
There is no charge, but any donations will be split between the Disasters’ Emergency Committee and our church’s local charities Jubilee Foodbank, Bower House and The Cube. Refreshments are available.
