What a busy week, we are delighted that so many of you wanted activity bags and we are sorry that we couldn’t supply them to everyone, but hopefully you will be able to follow the instructions for the crafts each week even if you don’t have one.
This week we are making poppies, if you are interested in local history we have a memorial in the Jubilee Hall where we normally meet on Friday mornings. This is for the men associated with the church who died in World War I and there are photographs and some information about them here including the Harborough streets where they lived.
Our church building has closed again, but we are still very much in business, and we are delighted that we can share this page with you each week.
If this is your first time here, we try to follow the format of Toddlers’ Club where we start with an activity, and then all get together to sing our favourite songs.
If you’re not sure of the tunes or you could do with backing vocals, YouTube is a wonderful invention!
What shall we make today?
What you need
Red paper or card – cut it into four identical hearts (easier if you start with a square and fold the paper into four then cut the unfolded edges into the top of the heart and then cut along the fold lines to give you four hearts.)
A circle of black card or paper, or a black pen or paint to colour it.
A slightly larger circle of card to form the backing of the poppy.
Green card or paper to form the leaf, 0 shaped
Glue the larger circle and carefully place the four hearts onto it.
Put some glue on the black circle and place it in the middle.
Turn the poppy over and stick the green leaf on the back of it.
You can also make a white poppy which is a symbol of peace, some of us wear both to remember those who died and in the hope that it doesn’t happen again.
I think people are putting poppies in their windows over the weekend and for Wednesday, which is the 11th and you might like to join in with that.
Time for some singing
We always start by doing some stretches,
Reach up to the sky,
Waves your hands above your head
Hop on one foot
Now the other one
and clap your hands.
HURRAY we are ready to start.
Hair and shoulders, knees and toes
knees and toes
Hair and shoulders, knees and toes
knees and toes
and thighs and calves and heels and toes
Hair and shoulders, knees and toes
(This is our covid-aware version)
Bouncing up and down on a big, red, tractor.x3
Bringing in the hay. Hey!
You can sit your baby on your knee and bounce them up and down or have a look at this video which has BSL actions. Change the colour of the tractor to add more verses.
Row row row your boat, gently down the stream
merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream
Row row row your boat, over to the shore
If you see a lion, don’t forget to roar
Row row row your boat, gently down the river
If you see a polar bear don’t forget to shiver
Row row row your boat, gently down the stream
If you see a crocodile, don’t forget to scream
Row row row you boat as fast as you can go
If you want to win the race, row and row and row
The wheels on the bus go round and round,
Round and round, Round and round
The wheels on the bus go round and round
All day long.
The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish
The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep
The children on the bus go wriggle, wriggle, wriggle
The doors on the bus go open and shut
