We’ve been thinking about how we can keep in touch while we can’t actually meet in the building on Friday mornings.
We would like to offer you an activity bag once a month which will have the things that you need to complete the crafts which appear on this page.
We think that each bag will have a theme which will cover the whole month.
We need you to sign up for this, please send us your name, your child’s name and their age, preferably by email to mhcc.leics@gmail.com.
We are also aiming to create a bag for children in Keystages 1&2.

We will prepare the bag in a safe way and ask you to collect it from the front steps of the church on the first Friday or the Saturday in a one hour time slot.

We’ve also set up an instagram page to make it easier for you to follow us and we will carry on posting on facebook.

Let’s make something

Today we are going to decorate a jam jar, you can use it for flowers or put an LED candle in it.

You will need
A clean jam jar
Flower petals
A heavy book and some kitchen roll
pva glue
LED light (optional)

This is best completed over two days to allow the petals to press and it will take a couple of hours for the glue to dry.

I don’t know how you will stop your children pulling petals off flowers once you’ve done this – sorry!

Pick some flowers with delicate petals. You can talk about colours and the shapes of the leaves.
Carefully take the petals off and place them on some paper towel inside a book. Close the book and leave it for at least a couple of hours but probably better overnight.
(Start trying to get the label off the jam jar now – it took me ages)

Working together put pva glue on the part of the jamjar you want to cover with petals, it may get messy.

Carefully place the petals around the jar, and then apply another coat of pva glue.

Leave it to dry and don’t panic if you can’t see the petals, pva becomes clear as it dries.

When the glue is dry you may have to pick some of the streaks off the glass.

You can use the jamjar as an LED tea light holder, or you could put some flowers in it and give it as a present.
Do you know any older people who live alone? I’m sure that they would appreciate you knocking on the door and having a short chat when you hand it over (don’t forget to stand well back), and best get all the glue off the children first!

Time to sing

Let’s begin by warming up,
can you reach as high as the sky?
Let’s curl up small
and jump as high as you can!

Some songs about gardens, but first of all

Hair and shoulders, knees and toes
knees and toes
Hair and shoulders, knees and toes
knees and toes
and thighs and calves and heels and toes
Hair and shoulders, knees and toes

Round and round the garden
Like a teddy bear
One step
Two steps
Tickle you under there

The tune for this song is The wheels on the bus

The Bees in the flowers
go buzz, buzz, buzz
Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz
The bees in the flowers go buzz, buzz, buzz,
All around the town.

The ants in the grass go march, march, march.

The crickets in the leaves go chirp, chirp, chirp.

The caterpillar in the field goes creep, creep, creep.

Don’t forget to let us know if you want to collect one of our activity bags, or if you would like a chat get in touch via email or our facebook page.
