The Club meets most weeks in the Ashley Room in the church. A number of volunteers lead the group on a rota encouraging the members to increase their conversational skills.
New members are always welcome to join.
The meeting is from 5.30-6.45pm.

In January 2024 they held their Christmas Party, and this report by Sharron gives you an idea of the warmth of the group.

This year the Ukraine has aligned itself with the West and changed from the orthodox January celebrations of Christmas and decided to celebrate on 25^th December. Many of our Ukrainian friends went home or to visit relatives sheltering in other host countries over the Christmas period, so we delayed our party until January.

On the night, we had a table groaning with festive party food, as well as a miniature tree and Christmas crackers, much to amusement of our friends who don’t have crackers traditionally- we used these to practice some language skills by reading out some of the terrible cracker jokes, many of which were totally lost in translation!

Then our language teachers led the group in some party games, ‘Simon Says’ which helped to remind everyone of parts of the body ‘Simon says touch your nose…touch your knees!’.
We had a pass the parcel with quiz questions to test at every layer of the wrapping paper.
Everyone loved joining in as we taught them how to ‘Okey Cokey’ which caused much hilarity, and then ‘Who am I’ post-it on the forehead really made everyone try out their English skills by asking lots of questions.

Our Ukrainian friends are always really upbeat and very happy to join in with all the activities we design for them and very grateful for this educational and sociable time every week. The party was also a great way for some of the teachers and supporters to get to know one another better as we are very lucky to have a largely new team join us this year.
It was such a lovely night and we had a lot of fun, we are all now looking forward to another year of learning and laughing together.
