HYMN ‘Revive thy work O Lord’

Act 2 1-8 and 13-21

The Holy Spirit comes at Pentecost
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. Utterly amazed, they asked: ‘Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?

13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, ‘They have had too much wine.’
14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: ‘Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 ‘“In the last days, God says,
    I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
    your young men will see visions,
    your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
    I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
    and they will prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in the heavens above
    and signs on the earth below,
    blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned to darkness
    and the moon to blood
    before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21 And everyone who calls
    on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Spirit of God
The blessing of the Father
Gift of grace and love
The promise of the Saviour
For power from above
Oh, wondrous gift that’s given
For confidence and mission
Holy Spirit, You make all things new

Spirit of God, breathe on me now
Source of life, come, revive my weary heart
Spirit of God, shine on me now
Light of life, come, ignite my longing heart

Come and lift the dark clouds
Of doubt and unbelief
Shine upon my soul now
For by Your rays I see
Clearer, closer, deeper
The love of my Redeemer
Holy Spirit, You make all things new

Where You breathe hope thrives
The dead return to life
And the dark must flee the breaking day
By Your light I see the glory of my King
Beholding Him I will be changed

You gotta sing when the spirit says sing,
You gotta sing when your spirit says sing,
When your spirit says sing
You gotta sing right along,
You gotta sing when your spirit says sing.

You gotta shake when the spirit says shake,
You gotta shake when your spirit says shake,
When your spirit says shake
Gotta shake like a snake,
You gotta shake when your spirit says shake.

You gotta shout when the spirit says shout,
You gotta shout when your spirit says shout,
When your spirit says shout
You gotta shout right out loud,
You gotta shout when your spirit says shout.

You gotta sing when your spirit says sing,
You gotta sing when your spirit says sing,
When your spirit says sing
You gotta sing right along,
You gotta sing when your spirit says sing.

You gotta sing when your spirit says sing,
You gotta sing when your spirit says sing,
When your spirit says sing
You gotta sing right along,
You gotta sing when your spirit says sing.

Breathe on me, breath of God:
fill me with life anew,
that I may love as you have loved
and do as you would do.

Breathe on me, breath of God,
until my heart is pure,
until my will is one with yours
to do and to endure.

Breathe on me, breath of God;
till I am wholly thine,
until this earthly part of me
glows with your heavenly fire.

Breathe on me, breath of God;
so shall I never die,
but live with you the perfect life
of your eternity.

Revive Thy work, O Lord,
Now to Thy saints appear;
O speak with power to every soul,
And let Thy people hear.

  Revive Thy work, O Lord,
  While here to Thee we bow;
  Descend, O gracious Lord, descend,
  Oh, come, and bless us now!

Revive Thy work, O Lord,
And every soul inspire;
Oh, kindle in each heart, we pray,
The Pentecostal fire.

Revive Thy work, O Lord,
Exalt Thy precious name;
And may Thy love in every heart
Be kindled to a flame.

Revive Thy work, O Lord,
And bless to all Thy Word;
And may its pure and sacred truth
In living faith be heard.

Revive Thy work, O Lord,
And make Thy servants bold;
Convict of sin and work once more
As in the days of old.

Revive Thy work, O Lord,
Give Pentecostal showers;
Be Thine the glory, Thine alone
The blessing, Lord, be ours.
