Haggai 1:2-12
2 This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘These people say, “The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house.”’
3 Then the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai: 4 ‘Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your panelled houses, while this house remains a ruin?’
5 Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Give careful thought to your ways. 6 You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.’
7 This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Give careful thought to your ways. 8 Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honoured,’ says the Lord. 9 ‘You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?’ declares the Lord Almighty. ‘Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house. 10 Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops. 11 I called for a drought on the fields and the mountains, on the grain, the new wine, the olive oil and everything else the ground produces, on people and livestock, and on all the labour of your hands.’
12 Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the Lord their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the Lord their God had sent him. And the people feared the Lord.
Acts 1:4-9
4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: ‘Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptised with water, but in a few days you will be baptised with the Holy Spirit.’
6 Then they gathered round him and asked him, ‘Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?’
7 He said to them: ‘It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’
9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
HYMN Mission Praise 1040 ‘Come, now is the time to worship’
Come, now is the time to worship
Come, now is the time to give your heart
Come, just as you are, to worship.
Come, just as you are, before your God
Come.
One day every tongue will confess You are God.
One day every knee will bow
Still the greatest treasure remains for those
Who gladly choose you now.
Come, now is the time to worship
Come, now is the time to give your heart
Come, just as you are, to worship.
Come, just as you are, before your God
Come.
One day every tongue will confess You are God.
One day every knee will bow
Still the greatest treasure remains for those
Who gladly choose you now. (Rpt)

HYMN ‘Will you go down to the river’
As I went down in the river to pray,
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown;
Good Lord, show me the way.
O sisters, let’s go down,
Let’s go down, come on down;
O sisters, let’s go down
Down in the river to pray.
As I went down in the river to pray,
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the robe and crown;
Good Lord, show me the way.
O brothers, let’s go down,
Let’s go down, come on down;
Come on, brothers, let’s go down,
Down in the river to pray.
As I went down in the river to pray,
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown;
Good Lord, show me the way.
O fathers, let’s go down,
Let’s go down, come on down;
O fathers, let’s go down,
Down in the river to pray.
As I went down in the river to pray,
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the robe and crown;
Good Lord, show me the way.
O mothers, let’s go down,
Come on down, don’t you want to go down?
Come on, mothers, let’s go down,
Down in the river to pray.
As I went down in the river to pray,
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown;
Good Lord, show me the way.
O sinners, let’s go down,
Let’s go down, come on down;
O sinners, let’s go down,
Down in the river to pray.
As I went down in the river to pray,
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the robe and crown;
Good Lord, show me the way.

HYMN Mission Praise 379 ‘Jesus shall reign’
Jesus shall reign where’er the sun,
Doth His successive journeys run,
His Kingdom stretch from shore to shore,
‘til moon shall wax and wane no more.
For Him shall endless prayer be made,
And praises throng to crown His head;
His name like sweet perfume shall rise,
With every morning sacrifice.
People and realms of every tongue,
Dwell on His love with sweetest song,
And infant voices shall proclaim,
Their early blessings on His name.
Blessings abound where’er He reigns,
The prisoner leaps to lose his chains,
The weary find eternal rest;
And all the sons of want are blessed.
Let every creature rise and bring,
Peculiar honours to our King,
Angels descend with songs again,
And earth repeat the loud AMEN!
Words: Isaac Watts Tune: Truro
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
