Thirty five of us are following the Community Bible Experience designed by the Scottish Bible Society. The aim is to read the New Testament in forty days, but some of us will take a bit more.
We have five groups meeting across the week a mix of morning, afternoon and evening.
You can start during the course some groups hope to finish w/c 15th June but others will be up to about four weeks later.
We are allocated books of the Bible to read, eg Week Five we are reading Matthew, but Week Three was 1 & 2 Corinthians, Galations and half of Romans.
We discovered that week was hard going after the first person said, ‘I’m struggling this week’ and everyone else said ‘Oh it’s not just me then!’.
There are five questions to answer each week,
What’s something you noticed for the first time?
What questions did you have?
Was there anything that bothered you?
What did you learn about loving others?
What did you learn about loving God?
The book is set out like a ‘normal’ book, there are no chapters and verses, the books follow roughly a chronological or themed pattern, so we began with Luke, Acts and then epistles.
The cover has a modern design and it is hoped that people will read it who are intimidated by the traditional style of the Bible.
You can listen to David Suchet reading it to you, and there are some cartoons which introduce each book if you want some background.
The group I belong to all feel that we are experiencing the Bible in a new way.
